Brit tourist, 19, in serious condition after diving head first into Magaluf pool

A British tourist suffered life-changing head injuries after diving into a pool in Magaluf and hitting the bottom.

The 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital at about 1.30am today after hitting his head at the Oceans Beach Club - which has a 4.5 rating out of 5 on Tripadvisor.

It is understood the part of the pool where he went in headfirst is about a foot-and-a-half deep.

Paramedics raced to the scene where it was feared he could have suffered a spinal injury along with his head wound.

His condition has since been described as "serious" and he is believed to be at Son Espases Hospital in the island capital Palma was described as “serious".

Civil Guard officers are investigating what happened.

It comes after a 34-year-old British tourist plunged to his death from the seventh floor of his hotel in the Majorcan party resort of Magaluf.

Witnesses filmed the fall after they saw him pacing up and down a narrow ledge outside his balcony at the four-star Melia South Beach Hotel.

Reports suggested the man might have been trying to balance on the rails of the hotel and slipped.

He fell more than 15 metres.

Police said at the time he had been drinking since before 8.30am.

The emergency services rushed to the scene, including an ambulance, police and the Civil Guard.

Doctors from a nearby medical centre also attended but were unable to revive the victim.

Later the same day, a Dutch tourist died after falling off a cliff in front of his partner and two children in a stunt that went wrong.

He was later named as a former footballer called Mourad Lambrabatte.

A post-mortem revealed he had drowned in a state of semi-consciousness after hitting the water rather than dying from impact injuries caused by smashing against the rocks as initially believed.

Earlier this month, an Irish tourist was rushed to hospital in a “serious” condition after falling from a second-floor apartment in Santa Ponsa near Magaluf.

Fines remain in place for banned practices like balconing, the Spanish term used where people try to jump from their balconies into swimming pools or put their lives at risk by climbing from one outside balcony to another.

Meanwhile, a tough six-drinks only alcohol rule is also attempting to curb any unruly drunken behaviour and keep tourists safe.
