Brit soldier captured in Ukraine looks battered and bruised amid Russian torture claims

A British soldier who was captured by Russian forces in Ukraine looks battered and bruised amid worrying torture claims.

Aiden Aslin, from Newark, Nottinghamshire, has fought with the Ukrainian marines since 2018.

The 27-year-old was forced to surrender after his unit ran out of food and ammunition as they fought to defend the besieged city of Mariupol.

But now the former care worker has been pictured with cuts to his face with his wrists in handcuffs.

The latest images come amid worries he has been tortured or beaten by Russian forces.

There’s a large cut and red mark on his forehead where he could have been hit or struck.

The images was shared in a tweet from Aslin’s Twitter, and it read: "Just got this, it looks as if they have gotten ahold of Aiden.”

It added that his Russian captors appeared to "have worked him over too by the looks of it".

The tweet added: "We're going to keep in the public eye every day until he's exchanged."

Pictures of him with the cut were also shared by a Telegram account that posts pro-Russia propaganda.

The account said: "And here is a real English boy from the Ukrainian Marine Brigade, whom I wrote about yesterday and who, like the rest, chose life and the opportunity to see the Queen again.

"That's who you need to take an example from other Ukrainian soldiers. Become an aristocrat too."

His family were left fearing for his welfare after he looked 'drained of colour' as he was paraded on Russian TV.

Kremlin state TV broadcast footage of the Brit with a gash on his forehead, sparking concerns about his treatment in captivity.

The Brit was forcibly interviewed by a Russian journalist who asked him various questions about his time in Ukraine.

The interviewer asked him 'Tell me, did you kill people?', with Aiden replying 'I don't know'.

He had previously been paraded on Russian state TV (Facebook)

He then added: "I didn't do any fighting."

When asked if he saw how people were killed, Aiden looked off camera before answering 'no'.

His brother, Nathan Wood, 25, said Aiden looked 'awful' and 'absolutely exhausted' in the images.

He said: "It is so shocking for our family to see Aiden in that state. What have the Russians done to him? He looks awful, absolutely exhausted. His face is drained of colour.

"How has he got such a big red mark on his forehead? That looks like he's been hit with a rifle butt."

Aiden's mum, Ang Wood, is convinced the images are real due to her son's distinctive 'Happy Days' tattoo.

She said it looked like her son had been 'beaten up' and called on Vladimir Putin to respect Aiden's rights under the Geneva Convention.

The mum added: “I'm in bits. My son will be scared just as we are.

"Aiden is a serving member of the Ukrainian armed forces and as such is a prisoner of war and must be treated with humanity.

"It is time now for the British Government to get involved. and help secure Aiden's release because he is still a British citizen.

"Possibly there is hope for a prisoner swap arranged by the Ukrainians."

His family have been left terrified he's being tortured by Russian forces (twitter)

Aiden called his family in the early hours of Tuesday, telling them his unit was out of ammunition and food and had been ordered to surrender

He told them the 36th Marine Brigade had been fighting for 48 days straight and was exhausted.
