Brit killed by thugs wielding sickle shaped knife in brutal Thailand attack

A man from the UK has been killed in a knife attack and a second Brit has been seriously injured in Thailand.

The brutal assault saw the man reportedly cut in the neck with a sickle-shaped blade during the early hours of Saturday in the south-east Asian country.

A second brit who was also attacked is being treated in hospital and is reportedly in a serious condition.

The two men were said to have been listening to music and drinking at a table past 3am when they were attacked in the Muang district of Kanchanaburi, in the south west of Thailand.

Police have suggested that the initial argument between the two men and their attacker may have been about the volume of music.

Officers found one of the Brits, believed to be from Somerset, lying face down in a pool of blood with knife wounds to his neck, according to Mirror Online.

The second man, from Nuneaton, was seriously injured and was taken to Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital.

The attacker then fled the scene.

A Thai man, 23, was later arrested at 8.49am after hiding in the room of a relative opposite where the attack took place, the Bangkok Post reports.

He has since been charged with murder and attempted murder, the publication says.

A witness in the area, believed to be a relative of the deceased Brit’s girlfriend, told police he was woken up by loud noises during the early hours of Saturday.

He claims he then went to investigate and found the two Brits badly injured.

A sickle and a pair of slippers believed to be belonging to the attacker were also found at the scene, police said.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We are contact with the Royal Thai Police following the death of one British man and the hospitalisation of another in Thailand and are ready to provide consular support.”
