Brit ISIS bride Shamima Begum stocked up on 30 Aero bars before joining terrorists

British ISIS bride Shamima Begum has accepted she joined the terror group after fleeing the UK - and told of how she stocked up on 30 Aero bars before leaving.

Ms Begum, who left the UK as a teen, has now told the BBC podcast The Shamima Begum Story that she had been "relieved" to leave the country.

The Shamima Begum Story podcast follows a year's worth of chats with Ms Begum, currently stuck in the al-Roj camp in Syria, run by the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Speaking of her preparation to travel to Syria after leaving Bethnal Green as a schoolgirl in 2015, Ms Begum said there were "people online telling us and, like, advising us on what to do and what not to do".

She and the two school friends who infamously disappeared with her - Kadiza Sultana and Amira Abase - were given "a long list of detailed instructions" ahead of the journey, she said.

The runaway also said she stocked up on "30 Aero bars" before leaving.

"You can find a lot of things in this country but you cannot find mint chocolate," she said.

Ms Begum told the podcast: "I'm just so much more than ISIS and I'm so much more than everything I've been through."

She added she "understands" the anger towards her but didn't believe it was actually directed towards her - rather it was the public's anger towards ISIS.

"When they think of ISIS they think of me because I've been put on the media so much," she explained.

Speaking of the journey to Syria, Ms Begum said the group "tried hard to clear [their] tracks" but claimed "just one" of them was "stupid"."

"People used to say like, pack nice clothes so you can dress nicely for your husband ", she added, referring to the fact that they were expected to marry IS fighters.

Host Josh Baker said: "There are different ways to tell the Shamima Begum story.

"There's the one about a 15-year-old schoolgirl who was groomed and lured to a war zone by ISIS and now needs saving from a Syrian detention camp.

"And there's the one about a traitor, who fled Britain to join ISIS and became known the world over as a terrorist and must be stopped from coming back to Britain.

"As Shamima challenges the removal of her British citizenship by the UK government, I've examined her accounts to give listeners a definitive narrative on this complex, nuanced and shocking story."

In the podcast, Ms Begum also declared that her ISIS days were "over".

In 2019, Begum was found in a refugee camp, but the UK - she was born in London - withdrew her citizenship and banned her from entering.

Begum is challenging the decision and insists she no longer supports the group.
