BRIT Awards host Mo Gilligan apologises for swearing as he admits he 'got carried away'

Mo Gilligan has apologised after swearing live on air as he hosted the BRIT Awards 2022.

The comedian is at the helm of the awards ceremony this evening, but as he sat with host Maya Jama and BRIT Award winner Olivia Rodrigo in the VIP area, he apologised for accidentally muttering a swear word earlier in the night.

Apologising for his faux pas, Mo - who is currently sitting on The Masked Singer judging panel - admitted he had "got carried away", as veteran presenter Maya reassured him that it happens to everyone, before the duo decided to down a shot each.

Mo is making history this year as the first Black presenter of the annual awards ceremony, and before the show, he admitted it was an "absolute privilege" to be leading the ceremony this year.

He said at the time: "It’s an absolute privilege to host the 2022 BRIT Awards. I’m truly honoured to be asked. I promise we’re going to give it all – we’ve got to create an incredible night for music fans everywhere. Let’s go!"

Last month, Mo revealed he would be donating his BRIT Awards fee to a black maternity charity.

"I believe in giving back so I’m going to be donating my fee for the @BRITs to @fivexmore," he shared in a tweet, "They do extraordinary work and when the spotlight is on me I must shine it on others."

Whilst he added in a post on Instagram : "Last year I had the year of my life. It was amazing, so I’m starting how I finished. I’m starting it by hosting the 2022 @brits award & I’m extremely exciting to be donating my @brits fee to @fivexmore_.

"Love this Mo," BBC Radio 1 DJ Rickie Haywood-Williams wrote.
