Brit, 22, dies after falling 65ft down cliff while hiking at tourist hotspot

A British tourist has tragically died after falling 65ft while hiking with friends in a popular beautyspot in Peru.

Alan Dawson Miles, 22, has been named in local media reports as the man who fell down a ravine in the Peruvian Andes, sustaining serious injuries.

It is understood his family has been told the devastating news by the Foreign Office.

The government department told The Mirror they are now providing support to Alan's family, and it is understood they are working with local authorities over the heartbreaking incident.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are providing consular support to the family of a British man who has died in Peru and are in contact with the local authorities.”

The 22-year-old had been out at the Casona del Inca in Cuzco in the Peruvian Andes at around 2.30pm local time on Thursday with two pals, when he fell.

His friends alerted the authorities, who arrived at the scene and took the Brit to hospital for treatment.

Sadly despite the efforts of medics, he passed away in hospital after a doctor diagnosed him with hypovolemic shock, skull base fracture and sudden head trauma.

Police are now investigating the incident.

Local reports have claimed that the tourist slipped while climbing a rocky hill, and plummeted more than twenty metres.

Cuzco is a popular travel destination with tourists as it is of huge archeological significance due to formerly being a part of the Incan Empire.

The city is also close to world heritage site Machu Picchu, a hugely popular site for tourists.

The incident is not the first such tragedy in the area, in 2016 a German tourist died after falling from the summit of Machu Picchu while posing for a photo.
