Bristol weather: Rain on its way as cold snap set to end in the city

The cold snap is forecast to come to an end in Bristol after the city area has seen sub-zero temperatures for the past week. Pictures showed parts of Bristol Harbour frozen over and snowfall covering most of the region in a white blanket last weekend.

Temperatures are predicted to go back up from tomorrow (December 18) in Bristol. Sunday morning will begin above freezing at 3°C from 9am, and the mercury will start to climb rapidly in the afternoon and evening, even reaching as high as 10°C by 6pm, according to the Met Office.

However, as we say goodbye to the frosty conditions, rain is forecast to sweep in over the city from around 8am, with chances of rain rising to 90% throughout the day. The rain is expected to remain throughout the day - as parts of Bristol have been flagged under a yellow weather warning from the Met Office, warning of a period of rain and snow mixed falling on frozen surfaces that could lead to icy conditions causing some travel disruption.

Into next week and temperatures will be rising even further. On Monday (December 19), the temperature could reach highs of 14°C and lows of 8°C, with heavy rain and overcast conditions predicted for the start of the week. Temperatures will drop slightly again by Tuesday, with overcast weather an highs of 10°C.

Heading into the Christmas weekend, the weather will remain stable at around 10°C with the possibility of light showers. The possibilities of a White Christmas heading Bristol's way seem less likely according to the Met Office's most recent forecast.
