Bristol weather: BBC weather says exact date mini-heatwave will hit as 20C highs expected for Easter weekend

Temperatures are expected to soar this week, just in time for the Easter bank holiday weekend. A mini-heatwave has been predicted by BBC Weather - with highs possibly reaching 20C - so poise your BBQs and prepare your outdoor Easter egg hunts, as you could be in luck.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly during the week after a series of colder spells at the beginning of April. Bristol could expect to see some light rain at the beginning of the week with highs of 15C, and the mercury is set to climb as we edge closer to the Easter weekend, according to BBC Weather.

On Good Friday, a few spells of rain will sweep in from the west, gradually clearing away to leave it dry and bright in the afternoon. Those hoping to head outside over the long weekend could see temperatures reach as high as 18C in the late afternoon although light cloud is expected to linger for the rest of the day.

A mini-heatwave is due to hit Bristol on Saturday with warmer spells expected to climb to 20C on Saturday. The weather will remain dry and mostly bright and sunny over the course of the weekend.

Sunny intervals and light winds will carry on into Sunday with the warmest parts of the day due in the latter parts of the afternoon. Easter Monday may see a very slight drop in temperatures to 19°C but the weather is due to offer sunny intervals with a gentle breeze.

So if you're hoping to head outdoors on an Easter walk in Bristol, the holiday weekend weather certainly looks promising. Looking at the days ahead, here is the BBC forecast for the South West region from this evening:

Tonight

Tonight will stay largely cloudy, with a few lingering spots of rain around for a time. Towards the end of the night, heavier and potentially thundery rain will arrive from the south. Winds easing.

Tuesday

Tomorrow morning, overnight rain will clear to the north, and it will be dry but cloudy. Later in the afternoon, a few sharp showers will develop in places, with odd rumble of thunder possible.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday

After a cloudy start, Wednesday will see a mix of sunshine and spells of light rain or drizzle. Feeling mild. A dull morning on Thursday but turning sunnier through the day. Mainly dry but the odd shower is possible in the afternoon. Overnight and into Friday, a few spells of rain will sweep in from the west, gradually clearing away to leave it dry and bright in the afternoon.
