A Bristol entrepreneur and her online safety business have been recognised for efforts to use technology for good causes.
Angela Loveridge’s initiative Better Together aims to support parents in keeping their children safe online, by signposting them towards practical tools, techniques and resources, as well as encouraging open conversations around the subject.
Ms Loveridge has now been crowned the winner of the inaugural Tim Marsh Memorial Award, which is presented by Bristol-based design agency Istoria Group. The prize was set up by the company in memory of its former team member Tim Marsh, who passed away after a short illness in 2022.
Mr Marsh co-founded management innovation platform Solverboard, which was formerly a member of Istoria’s incubation hub, before later being acquired by AIM-listed global software and services company Sopheon.
After winning the award, Ms Loveridge will receive a six-month programme of mentorship from Istoria’s directors, and will include a web and brand refresh for Better Together by Istoria’s sister agencies Tiny Spark and Phoenix Wharf.
Ms Loveridge said: “I am absolutely delighted and truly honoured to be the first recipient of the Tim Marsh Memorial Award. Although I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting Tim myself, I can already sense that he was clearly a remarkable individual, both in terms of his talent and his commitment to using technology for good.
“The award is a wonderful initiative and the incredible benefits that come with it are very exciting. I look forward to working with the team so that Better Together can empower more parents to keep their children safe online.”
Istoria Group chief executive Sam Rowe said: “We knew at once Angela was someone we wanted to support, to help Better Together reach its full potential. When we launched the Tim Marsh Memorial Award, Angela immediately came to mind as the perfect fit."
Better Together was previously a finalist in a competition Istoria ran for female-led Bristol micro-businesses earlier this year, in conjunction with International Women’s Day . Self Agency, a firm which looks to improve the lives of neurodivergent people, secured free workspace for six months at Istoria’s headquarters at Bristol Paintworks.
