A '100 person-strong rave' is underway in the Centre this evening, as Bristolians enjoy the first night of the four-day Bank Holiday weekend. One local resident claimed the boom of the music is making their "whole building shake" and others have said it has been going on since this afternoon.
Videos from the scene in Colston Avenue show a large group of people dancing to music near the Cenotaph and Electricity House, in the open area where many people skate - skateboarders can even be seen trying their tricks undeterred while music plays. And while many onlookers in the city centre have been stopping to watch and even join in the festivities, not everyone is happy to overhear the free DJ set.
In a Reddit post at around 4pm, one neighbour wrote: "I live close nearby and can hear the music 500 meter away. The bass is literally making my whole building shake and its been going on for more than an hour.

"Like was there a planned music event or is it just some dip****s blasting music at 4pm on a weekday right in the middle of the plaza? It's absolutely insane to me how no-one has called the police or done something?"
They complained that anyone who wants to play music so loud should either go to a rural area away from others or "lower the volume and be sort of respectful" to those who still have to work or who want to relax. Some users agreed with the original poster and said they were concerned that "not everyone has the Bank Holiday off" work or school, so considered the loud music "unfair".
However, many said it comes with the territory of living in the city centre, while others argued it was just "people having fun on a sunny bank holiday that's also the Jubilee, a literal once in a lifetime event for most people".
Bristol has been getting into the party spirit today with (slightly more subdued) street parties for the Jubilee and day one of Love Saves the Day at Ashton Court. One person who passed the group in the Centre estimated there to be "more than 100" people in attendance as of 9pm.
