Bristol steak restaurant Pasture is opening a new butchers, grocery store and burger joint in the city centre. The eatery, which will also serve breakfast, will be part of the new Redcliff Quarter - a development of shops, homes, food outlets and a hotel being built in Redcliffe.
Sam Elliott, chef and owner of Pasture, has acquired the long-leasehold interest of a corner property for the new venue, which will front St Thomas Street and Cross Street. The building is just around the corner from Mr Elliott’s highly-successful first restaurant on Portwall Lane, which opened in 2018. The business also has an eatery and bar on Cardiff’s High Street that opened in 2020.
The new venture, known as Prime & Pasture, is expected to open in early 2023 as an extension of the original Portwall Lane site and will create 50 new jobs.

“Redcliffe has undergone a major transformation since we first opened our doors in 2018," said Mr Elliott. "Both residential and office blocks are being constructed all around us and it’s fast becoming a stylish and sought after central location for Bristol. We are very excited to bring our new offer to Redcliffe with an emphasis on high-quality food and sustainable production and plans for further expansion next year.”
Redcliff Quarter is located within a conservation area and is just a few minutes’ walk from Temple Meads railway station. The mixed-use development was formed following the acquisition of four separate elements between 2014 and 2017.
The first phase of the scheme, which consists of 246 apartments in two blocks with seven ground-floor commercial units, was completed in 2018. The second phase, which comprises a major build-to-rent development with a further 400 homes, was sold to Newcastle-headquartered property firm Grainger in June and is now under construction.
Property consultants Alder King acted on behalf of Redcliff MCC in the disposal of the building to Pasture. Mr Elliott's business was represented by ARC Retail & Leisure.
Tom Dugay of Alder King’s agency team said: “Securing such a big name occupier as Pasture as the anchor tenant is a real coup which will help establish this area as a strong new destination in the city.”
