Leaders at a Bristol secondary school say they have upgraded CCTV following several incidents of ‘vandalism’ to the toilet blocks. Parents of children at Redland Green School in north Bristol have been told that a ‘minority’ of pupils had been causing the vandalism, but that the school was trying to tackle the issue.
In a message to parents, headteacher Ben Houghton said: “Unfortunately, last term we had several incidents of vandalism to toilet blocks. We know that these are being caused by a minority within our school community but the additional cost and inconvenience is frustrating.
"As a result, we have upgraded our CCTV within school to improve site security,” he added. "I would like to reassure parents and students that we adhere to strict GDPR regulations with the placement of cameras and the use of any footage."

The letter, sent at the end of last month, did not specify the nature of the 'vandalism'. Just before Christmas, the multi-academy trust (MAT) that runs Redland Green School, the Gatehouse Green Learning Trust, announced it was merging with another MAT to form a huge umbrella trust with 22 schools.
In December, the school refuted claims made by some pupils that a 'riot' had taken place at the school, when pupils protested about the departure of one teacher. It said around 150 students staged a peaceful protest and that the school "supports the right of students to speak passionately about how they feel".
