More than 20 communal warm places for those who can't afford to heat their homes have opened their doors in Bristol. A total of 22 "Welcoming Spaces" are now in operation, but city mayor Marvin Rees has said more will open their doors in the coming weeks.
In June, Bristol City Council announced it was planning to set up 'warm places' across the city to help people who are struggling to pay their energy bills. Since then, another council in the region has announced plans to launch a similar scheme.
South Gloucestershire Council said last month that details for the scheme were still "being considered". In Bristol, work has been taking place for several months now to turn the Welcoming Spaces into a reality.

Marvin Rees has previously described 'Welcoming Spaces' as a city-wide network of spaces where people can go and be warm. It has now been announced that the Welcoming Spaces are being split into "Tier 1" and "Tier 2".
The council defines "Tier 1" spaces as "community living rooms" where people can spend time and socialise. They offer an opportunity for people to come together, share and use resources, join a range of activities, and/or seek advice and support relating to the cost-of-living crisis, it adds.
In comparison, "Tier 2" spaces have more restricted opening times and, while they are open to all, they may have some activity restricted to a specific community.
This is the list of "Welcoming Spaces" that has been released by the council:
