Bristol's latest Covid case breakdown as four more people die

Four more people have died with Covid-19 in the Bristol region, the latest government data shows.

According to new figures today (Friday, January 21) the city of Bristol recorded one new Covid-related death, while North Somerset recorded two, in the latest 24-hour period on record.

More than 1,700 more people have tested positive in the wider West of England region.

Bristol recorded 716 new cases, which is 90 more than it did yesterday. Bristol's total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic is now at 114,189.

South Gloucestershire recorded 442 new cases, up on 416 cases yesterday. That brings its total to 64,529.

Meanwhile North Somerset recorded 332 new cases, which is less than yesterday's total of 384. More than 43,000 people have tested positive in North Somerset since the pandemic began.

Bristol's Covid rate remains high at 895.5 cases per 100,000 people, but it's not as high as the UK rate of 925.2.

It comes as Wales and Northern Ireland have changed their coronavirus restrictions after England confirmed it would be dropping its Plan B measures from next week.

The number of positive test results in each area of the Bristol region since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results recorded today in brackets:

  • City of Bristol: 114,189 (+716)

  • North Somerset: 43,138 (+332)

  • South Gloucestershire: 64,529 (+442)

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 41,080 (+248)

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic is as follows, with new deaths within 28 days of a positive test in brackets:

  • City of Bristol: 627 (+1)

  • North Somerset: 386 (+2)

  • South Gloucestershire: 416 (-)

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 278 (+1)

Nationally a further 95,787 cases were recorded in the UK today, and another 288 people have died within 28 days of a positive test.
