Bristol Rovers selected for Sky Sports coverage ending five-year TV hiatus

Bristol Rovers have been selected for live TV coverage for the first time in years with the Gas' trip to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday rescheduled to Wednesday, October 26 at 8pm on Sky Sports.

The Gas have not featured live on Sky Sports since the EFL Trophy semi-final defeat against Sunderland in March 2019. Rovers twice were shown on BT Sport later that year in FA Cup replays against Bromley and Plymouth Argyle.

But for a league game, it has been much longer since Rovers played in front of the live TV cameras, with the lion's share of the broadcaster's picks being spent on Championship games and the prestige clubs that have fallen into League One over the years, such as Sunderland, Derby County and Wednesday.

It has been five years since a Rovers league game was shown live on Sky, with Darrell Clarke's side losing 3-1 at Bradford City in September 2017 in League One. BIlly Bodin was the scorer for the Gas that day.

The clash against the Owls was due to be screened on the EFL's iFollow pay-per-view streaming service, but it will now only be available via Sky Sports. The move by the broadcaster will give Rovers' players a chance to impress in front of a national audience, particularly after being snubbed for coverage during the League Two promotion race last season.

But there will be a degree of frustration for fans who have already made travel and accommodation arrangements for a game that promises to be a popular choice for travelling Gasheads.
