Bristol Rovers reveal new mock-up in next stage of process to redesign club badge

Bristol Rovers have unveiled their latest mock-up in the next phase of their development of the club badge, with a skull and crossbones image inside a shield shape, “1883” incorporated and a new font.

In early September, the Gas detailed how they were looking to explore the idea of changing the badge - which has been in place for 25 years. A survey was subsequently sent out to fans, with CEO Tom Gorringe detailing how 52 per cent of respondents were open for a change.

A second questionnaire was then distributed in late October to try and narrow down what sort of imagery and design would be deemed suitable for the majority of the fanbase. And a third survey to supporters has now been issued to supporters.

As has been the case throughout, Rovers insist this is fundamentally not the final design and simply forms part of the consultation stage, which remains fully transparent for fans who have the ultimate decision on whether this process continues and, should it progress, what the new badge will look like.

“This full crest mock-up will hopefully provide a cohesive visualisation for you to feedback on,” the survey reads. “This feedback will then be taken on board to decide if we conclude the process or move into focus groups, with a view to working towards a final design.”

The latest mock-up is a departure from the current pirate standing on top of a football and opts for a more streamlined skull and crossbones, as depicted in the second survey which Rovers claim gained 54 per cent of approval from respondents.

That is then situated inside a shield shape, moving away from the current circular badge with “Bristol Rovers” presented horizontally, as opposed to running either side of the circle. The font used gained 63 per cent of the votes in the previous survey against the other options.

“1883” - the year the club was founded - also forms part of the mock-up with then several artistic interpretations presented outside the dressing room at the Mem, pitchside and on the current first-team shirt with Gasheads asked for feedback; fans must rate it from 1-5 with an open answer to provide opinions and then a request for what they would change about it, if given the chance.
