Bristol Rovers announce surprise departure of Academy Manager Chris Hargreaves

Bristol Rovers have confirmed Academy Manager Chris Hargreaves has left the club by mutual consent.

The 49-year-old joined The Gas in September 2016 as the club's Under-21 coach and took on a number of different roles up until his departure.

In 2017, Hargreaves was promoted to Development Squad Manager and played a huge part in the club's success as they won the Central League two years later.

Hargreaves would then land himself the Academy Manager's role where he brought through a number of impressive talented players such as Kyrie Pierre and Brad Burrows - both who ended up on the books of Aston Villa last year.

Speaking of his departure, Hargreaves thanked fans on Twitter with the comment: "Thanks to the owner, staff, players, and fans of Bristol Rovers for a fantastic 6 years.

"Had some top memories and made some great friends. I wish the club every success in the future and look forward to the next challenge."

The former Torquay manager has also proven vital in the development of Luca Hoole with the right-back enjoying a breakthrough season at Memorial Stadium.

Hargreaves was also number two to former manager Graham Coughlan with the pair masterminding the club's League One survival bid in the 2017/18 season.

A statement posted on the club's official site read: "Chris and his staff have worked tirelessly to develop players throughout the Academy’s age groups.

"The club would like to wish Chris the best of luck for the future and thank him for his efforts during his time at The Memorial Stadium."

Bristol Live understands Hargreaves could be in line for the vacant Eastleigh FC managerial role.
