Bristol Rovers ahead of Salford City and Bradford City to top League Two for agent fees

Bristol Rovers spent more on agents fees than any other League Two club in the past two transfer windows, FA figures have revealed.

Joey Barton's huge overhaul of the playing squad has come at a significant cost when it comes to paying intermediaries, with the Gas paying £119,817 in fees from February 2, 2021 to January 31, 2022.

The Gas made more than 20 first-team signings in that period, with the playing ranks almost completely changed following Rovers' relegation to League Two last season. Over the same period from 2020-2021, Rovers paid £62,108 to intermediaries.

The Gas paid more to player representatives than any other League Two club – and more than 12 League One clubs – in that period, with Salford City (£116,390) and Bradford City (£108,451) second and third in the fourth-tier table.

Hartlepool United paid the least, paying £10,174 to intermediaries, with Colchester United and Newport County also keeping their spending below £20,000.

As a whole, League Two clubs' payments to agents totalled £1,285,606.

In the Premier League, a whopping £272,559,227 was paid to intermediaries, with Manchester City paying the most – £35,046,646.

Championship clubs, meanwhile totaled agent spending of £44,378,94. Bristol City accounted for almost £1.4million of that figure. The total for League One clubs was almost £4.5million.
