Bristol has been named as one of the top 150 'foodie' cities on the planet. Sandwiched between Bern in Switzerland and Genoa in Spain, the city came in at 115th.
The list was compiled by blogger Asher Fergusson, who used resources, including the Michelin guide, the World's 100 Best Restaurants list, TripAdvisor and cost of living database Numbeo, to develop a points system that allowed him to calculate an overall "global foodie Index" for each city.
The five metrics that determined Bristol's ranking were the number of Michelin Guide restaurants, the number of eateries from the World’s 100 Best Restaurants, the variety of national cuisines available, the average cost of a three-course mid-range meal and the total number of restaurants per person.
According to these statistics, Bristol earned a C+ rating with a global foodie index of 99.7 out of a possible 450. This took into account 14 Michelin guide restaurants and 83 different nationalities of food represented in the city.

The city with the highest number of Michelin restaurants was New York. In contrast, the number two foodie city Paris topped the leaderboard for the diversity of cuisine, with 123 cultures represented.
The figures reveal that there are 2,109 restaurants in Bristol relative to its population size, compared to 39,447 in Valetta, Malta, ranked 16th overall, and just 36 in Laos, Nigeria, which squeezes onto the list at number 146.
Price-wise, an average meal for two in Bristol is estimated to be £61.50. That's more than the average cost in nine of the top 10 destinations on the list, including the no1 ranked Tokyo at £42.
The priciest destination in the top 10 was New York, where an average spend is estimated to be £81. Further down the list, cities in Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark and Norway exceeded that figure. The most expensive spend was Beirut in Lebanon, where dinner for two will cost you around £135, while the place to go to make your money go further is Chennai in India. Ranked 24, a meal here will set you back just £10.89.
The highest-ranked UK city was London at 11, followed by Brighton and Hove at 57 and Manchester at 69. Edinburgh and Glasgow made appearances in 94 and 101, respectively, while Dublin in Ireland pipped them both at 93. Lagging behind Bristol were York at 131 and Belfast at 136.
