Bristol has been named the top destination in the entire UK for the best Sunday lunches. Both a pub and a restaurant have separately been identified as serving up the best Sunday lunch based on the number of reviews.
The Lion in Cliftonwood and Chris & Jo's Kitchen on St Michael's Hill were crowned worthy winners in a survey uncovering the most popular UK destinations. Bingo site Tombola analysed 30,381 TripAdvisor reviews and identified that 26 per cent of the two top-rated venues in Bristol have the most reviews mentioning ‘Sunday lunch’, ‘Sunday dinner’ and ‘vegan options’.
Fiona Vincent, the owner of The Lion, said she was really shocked at the news and attributed the result to the hard work of the team. She previously explained to BristolLive how important food was to the pub, which has been open for 14 years. The weekday menu changes week-to-week depending on the produce but the Sunday lunches are a constant due to their popularity.

The kitchen offers a unique take on the traditional roast dinner, serving dauphinoise potatoes as an addition to roasties and a cauliflower cheese croquette among the more traditional trimmings. The pub serves gluten-free and vegan-friendly dishes while avoiding preservatives through proper homemade cooking on site.
It has 228 five-star reviews out of a possible 292. One TripAdvisor reviewer under the username chrisgC3815UM recently left a glowing review calling it the best Sunday roast in Bristol after seven visits. "The service is spot on and it’s a great vibe in this establishment, with reasonable prices on food and drinks," they wrote.
Over in St Michael's Hill, Chris & Jo's Kitchen has also been singled out for its superb Sunday roasts. It's often praised for its generous portions and reasonable prices alongside its popular lunch and dinner menus throughout the rest of the week. It has 269 five-star reviews out of 305 in total on TripAdvisor.
It's also recently restarted offering a takeaway roast dinner service - made to order on the day. The menu is shared on social media every Sunday at around 10am and orders are taken on the day only.
A recent review on Tripadvisor posted by beckykaser2 said: "The hands down, best roast dinner we've ever had. There [were] so many added extras that in other restaurants, you'd have to pay the world for. Staff were lovely and attentive. Can't wait to go back."
