Western Power has explained the cause behind a power cut in Bristol last night which left residents baffled.
An outage on Saturday (February 26) left homes in the city centre, Clifton and Cotham without power until 2am, with residents taking to Twitter to write about what happened. @mattmeech said: "Keep getting little power cuts in Bristol, anyone else ? 3 so far…"
There were also reports of traffic lights in the city centre not working. @EmmaEllisMUA tweeted at 11.30pm: "Traffic lights were not working half an hour ago as well." @Bohemian_Rebel said: "Traffic lights and street lights on the centre went off about 22.45. Street lights were still off 15 mins late."

Meanwhile one person in the BS7 area said they were also affected. @stockman_hunter said: "It's not just BS1. 3x power cuts now in BS7."
One person speculated the outage could be connected to the upcoming Festival of Lights which starts this week, but Western Power has confirmed it was down to a "fault on the high voltage network."
"Apologies for the ongoing #powercut affecting #BS1," they said on Twitter at 11pm. "Our engineers continue to work on the fault and are now estimating to have power restored by 02.00."
Replying to a resident who said their power "flickered briefly then came back on," Western Power said: "There is a fault on the high voltage network, engineers are working to restore power as soon as possible."
