Bristol playground company wins major Eden Project contract

A playground design company in Bristol has won a contract to build a new adventure play area for the Eden Project in Cornwall.

Bristol-based TouchWood Play said the facility, which will span a 500 sq m area, will be “one of the largest” outdoor play areas in the South West. At its centre will be a nine-metre-high ‘Tree of Life’ climbing tower and corkscrew tube slide.

Made from natural and sustainable materials, the play area will also feature slides, swings, water play, suspended nets, a miniature clay quarry, as well as sensory and accessible play features.

Emma Evans, the tourist attraction’s chief marketing officer, said: “When TouchWood presented their design it was obvious that their instincts and passion for natural and sustainable play are perfectly aligned to our own and we were delighted with their creative approach.

“Eden is all about connecting with the natural world and we know that being active in the fresh air is a brilliant way for children to develop mentally, physically and emotionally, while having fun and creating rich memories.”

Touchwood’s founder, Joe Cooper, added: “This is an incredible project and the whole team are all extremely proud to have been a part of it. In particular it resonates with our passion to bring outstanding design and natural play to more and more children in the UK and beyond, where unsustainably manufactured playgrounds are too often the norm.”

TouchWood operates design and manufacture centres in Bower Ashton and Brookgate in Bristol. The company has previously completed projects for schools, the National Trust, shopping centres such as The Mall at Cribbs Causeway and Bicester Village, as well as leisure parks Hobbledown Heath in London and Festyland in France.
