With 14 ice rinks around the country, Planet Ice has been the target of a cyber attack with an estimated 200,000 customers affected. Planet Ice owns ice rinks in a number of major centres, including Bristol Ice Rink at Cribbs Causeway.
In an email sent out this week, the ice rink operator said only non-financial data has been stolen. This means personal details such as names, addresses and passwords have been stolen by fraudsters.
Planet Ice has warned customers that they should not reply to any further emails about the breach and such emails should be treated as suspicious. The email stated: “We believe personal information about you may have been unlawfully accessed or affected by this date security incident”, highlighting that financial data is handled by a different company and could not have been accessed during the breach.

It confirmed that the breach has been handed over to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and that they were working with security experts and legal counsel to mitigate the risk for customers. But it warned : “Individuals or organisations with access to your data may attempt to use your data” and recommended that customers reset passwords on email systems used to communicate with the ice rink and to ensure personal anti-virus software is up to date.
Any suspicious emails should be verified by contacting their Data Protection Officer at dataprotect@imp-uk.co.uk
The statement apologised for any inconvenience to customers. The company also notified customers on its Facebook page that its website was “back up and running”.
