A driver in Bristol has received over 17,000 likes and a large amount of criticism after posting a video of himself using the bus lane on a busy road to jump a long line of queuing cars.
The video, posted on TikTok by a user whose handle is @theamazingman, shows dashcam footage of slow-moving traffic along what appears to be Wells Roads in Bristol. Accompanied by audio of F1 commentary in which Sebastian Vettel outmanoeuvres Lewis Hamilton, the driver then uses the bus lane to overtake queuing cars and captioned it: "This is what happens when 20+ cars can't read road signs. I'd complain but gets me home faster."
Amassing over 17,000 likes, the poster of the clip has gone viral and has been widely praised by many for outwitting his fellow drivers. However, many others were outraged, with one claiming, "you're the one who can't read road signs" and another saying, "you used a left turn only lane."

In response, the driver posted another snippet, this time with audio saying, "Are you dumb?" in which they zoom in on a road sign that states the bus lane is in operation between 4pm and 6.30pm Monday to Friday. The timing of the overtake appeared to be 4.35 pm on Saturday, March 11, so it seems the driver may have been well within their rights.
A warning has since been added to the video by TikTok, saying: "Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt."
While some people were infuriated at the motorist's driving, most commenters felt differently and claimed to take similar measures to speed up their journeys. One user wrote: "I do it all the time; people don't realise that they are only part-time bus lanes," while another said, "I love looking in the rear view mirror afterwards and watching people follow me."
One user said that the only issue with trying to perform such an overtake along this stretch of road is the danger of someone "desperate for a Miss Millie's" blocking the route. The comment earned its own response video showing one such vehicle parked in the bus lane, but fortunately, the queuing traffic allows the driver to quickly re-enter without any issue.
