Bristol covid cases drop to lowest level since start of December

Coronavirus cases in Bristol have dropped to their lowest daily figure since the beginning of December. With just 266 new cases confirmed today, it's the lowest daily total since December 4 when 257 positive tests were confirmed.

Bath and North East Somerset meanwhile, also part of the Bristol region, recorded their lowest daily figure since November 27. There were 70 new positive tests confirmed today.

Cases in both North Somerset and South Gloucestershire also dropped today, but only to levels seen in previous weeks in February. North Somerset had 129 new cases confirmed while South Gloucestershire had 177 new positive tests.

In total across the Bristol region, there were 642 new cases confirmed. This is just a fraction of the UK's 31,933 cases - only the second time cases have been that low since the second week of November.

There were two new deaths reported within the Bristol region. One was recorded in Bristol, while another death was confirmed within South Gloucestershire.

The total number of deaths across the region stands at 1,814. Meanwhile, across the entirety of the UK, there have been a total of 161,224 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of positive test results in each area of the Bristol region since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results recorded today (Saturday, February 19) in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 49,604 (+70)

  • Bristol: 141,159 (+266)

  • North Somerset: 54,024 (+129)
  • South Gloucestershire: 79,733 (+177)

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic is as follows, with new deaths within 28 days of a positive test in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 289 (-)

  • Bristol: 667 (+1)
  • North Somerset: 413 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire: 445 (+1)
