Bristol Coronation events include open-air screenings, street parties, afternoon tea and picnics

The coronation of King Charles III is fast approaching as a new monarch ascends the throne for the first time since 1952. There is a full schedule of the order of service for the big day on Saturday, May 6, with a special coronation concert to take place on Sunday.

The ceremony will be screened live from Westminster Abbey in London at around 11am. You can watch live on an open-air screen in the Bristol & Bath Science Park, which is free to enter on Saturday and Sunday.

There are a number of street parties planned in neighbourhoods all around the city with Bristol City Council revealing a list of 64 streets that have applied for road closures over the long weekend of the Coronation. Millions across the UK will be joining in with the Big Lunches, with many hosted in communities in Bristol.

Saturday, May 6

Open-air screening of Coronation Ceremony

On Saturday, the Coronation Ceremony is being screened on a six-metre screen in the Bristol & Bath Science Park. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of history in the making - with the ceremony starting at 11am. Tickets are free to book online.

As you enjoy the ceremony, indulge in delicious treats from the on-site bar, ice cream van, and food stall, offering an array of scrumptious options. Bring along your picnic blankets or hire a picnic bench and enjoy the festivities. Dirac Cres, Emersons Green, Bristol BS16 7FR

The Coronation pub street party

The aptly named Coronation pub will be hosting a street party filled with live music, a silent disco, food stalls and cider slushies from noon until 11pm. Donations collected at the event will go towards Ben Cheshire's fundraiser for Parkinson's UK can be made at his JustGiving page. Kingston Road, BS3 1DD

Coronation afternoon tea, The Beacon Cafe

Cream tea will be served for a suggested donation of £5 as well as afternoon tea for £7.50 for children, £10 for adults (if you're able to). It will be served from 2-4pm with bookings available online. 26 Chapel Road, BS15 8ED

Harvey Nichols Coronation afternoon tea

Raise a toast to the new monarch in true fitting style with a limited-edition Coronation Afternoon available from May 4 until June 4 for £45 per person - complete with finger sandwiches and savoury scones. 27 Philadelphia Street, BS1 3BZ

Keynsham Library Coronation Activities

If you're looking for something family-friendly then Keynsham Library is hosting activities on Saturday, including royalty and decorate a crown and royal badge, a nature trail around the library and getting creative by making a community garden out of recycled objects. Long Ashton Coronation Party

Long Ashton Branch Royal British Legion will host a party in Peel Park Community Centre grounds starting at 6.30pm, and finishing at 9pm with the lighting of the Village Beacon. There will be live music and food provided by The Market Kitchen - free entry. Kings Croft, Long Ashton, Bristol BS41 9ED

Coronation Party at The Brunel

The pub in Clifton is hosting a stage offering live, an all-day barbecue and a bar serving drinks from 1pm until 10pm. 38 The Mall, Clifton, Bristol BS8 4DS

Coronation picnic with Thornbury Cricket Club

Join the community for a picnic in the Paddock at Thornbury Cricket Club to celebrate King Charles Coronation on Saturday. Starts at 11am. The Clubhouse, The Ship Field, Thornbury Rd BS35 3LG

Knowle West's Big Coronation Party

This free event includes food, family-friendly activities and live music - including a performance by the professional orchestra Bristol Ensemble - noon to 3pm. Belfast Walk Community Garden, BS4 1LB

To say thank you to King Charles, King Street Brew House will have a special brew, 'The Crown Jewels' on tap that you can enjoy while watching the Coronation on their screens. King Street Brew House is extending its opening hours too. May 5-7. 13 Welsh Back, Bristol BS1 4RR

King's Coronation Concert and Big Lunch on screen

The lawns will be open all day and host the screenings with the concert set to begin at 8pm. With a huge 6m outdoor screen and an incredible soundtrack, this screening promises to be an unforgettable experience for all. Dirac Cres, Emersons Green, Bristol BS16 7FR

Chipping Sodbury Big Lunch

This free event runs from noon until 5pm with Liquor & Poker, Winterbourne Border Morris, Bubble Heaven and live music all as entertainment. People are encouraged to bring their own picnic to the party, where there will be competition entries for miniature gardens and make your own crown. 57-59 Broad St, Chipping Sodbury BS37 6AD

Picnic in the Park, Kingswood Park

The Holy Trinity Church Hall is hosting a free event from 12-3pm with live music and fairground rides in Kingwood Park. Pay-as-you-can picnic boxes can be ordered in advance online or you can bring your own, but free refreshments will be provided by the church. BS15 4AD

Cadbury Heath Coronation Big Lunch

This community event will bring people together to eat and celebrate. There will be a selection of hot and cold foods available to cater to different tastes, as well as a variety of drinks along with colouring activities for kids too. Cadbury Heath Hall, School Road, Warmley BS30 8EN

Sea Mills Coronation Community Picnic

Bring a picnic, something to sit on, your family, friends and neighbours for the community picnic. Toilets will be available at the Shire Colts Football Hut. St Edyth's Rd, Bristol BS9

Page Park Coronation Big Lunch

From 11am to 5pm, there will be a selection of food vendors and a programme of music on the bandstand. You can bring your own picnics but no barbecues are allowed. Park Road, BS16 5LB

Clifton Observatory afternoon tea

For a little bit of royal decadence, you can enjoy King Charles’ favourite tea and cake – Darjeeling and fruitcake – in an afternoon tea at Clifton Observatory. There will be two 90-minute sittings at 12pm and 2pm on May 7 and 8. Prices are £22pp for adults, and £10pp for children under 12. Litfield Place, BS8 3LT

Chandos Road Coronation Party, Redland

There will be tea, games and music on Chandos Road from Alexandra Park to Redland Stores from 2pm-4pm. People are encouraged to bring a picnic and chairs so you have somewhere to sit. Chandos Rd, Redland, Bristol BS6 6PE

Time capsule, Hanham Methodist Church

The church is marking the coronation by planting a memorial tree and burying a time capsule. Hosted from 10am until 2pm, a Ploughman's lunch and refreshments will be provided. The church is inviting people to help with some bee-friendly planting in the gardens.

'King Charles' at Berkeley Castle

In celebration of the coronation of King Charles III, Berkeley Castle is taking visitors back to 1673 hosting a previous King Charles, Charles II. There will be music, dancing and the chance to talk to King Charles himself about the advantages and disadvantages of being the English Monarch. Tickets are £7.50/£14.50 or £40 for a family.
