Bristol City player ratings vs West Bromwich Albion: James and Wells superb in dominant showing

Max O'Leary - 7

Didn't have a shot on target to save in the first half although was reassuring from deliveries. Made a brave punch in the first half. Was worried his confidence would have been knocked but there were no signs of it. Beaten when Asante's header came back off the post while having the crossbar rattled late on.

Zak Vyner - 8

Like his defensive partners, was superb. Assured on the ball and extremely disciplined. Can sometimes be criticised for a lapse of concentration but faultless this evening.

Timm Klose - 8

Superb at the back again. A real committed performance by the veteran who is ageing like a fine wine. Was up against two quick forwards but used his experience to drop back a yard and keep them quiet.

Rob Atkinson - 8

A monster at the back when defending West Brom's aerial crosses. Must have a headache with the amount of headers he won. Back to his best this evening.

Mark Sykes - 8

A small heart-in-mouth moment at the beginning of the game but faultless from there on out. Seemed to play deeper than usual which was key in keeping his side relatively quiet.

Jay Dasilva - 8

Lovely little knock at the back post to assist Williams for the opener. Superb defensively and whipped in a handful of dangerous crosses into the area. A great response after a difficult week.

Matty James - 8

How City have missed him in the midfield. Played the deepest of the three wearing the captain's armband and added that defensive responsibility that has been lacking. Prevented West Brom playing through the middle.

Joe Williams - 8

Grabbed his first goal in City colours when he was in the right place at the right time to poke home from a few yards. Took one for the team when his gonads got in the way of a strike on target.

Alex Scott - 7

Disciplined performance in the middle. City looked to play through him in the first half but West Brom started to mark him out of the game. A dogged showing under pressure from a high-intensity press.

Nahki Wells - 8

Had a great chance in the first minute but couldn't get it out of his feet. Played his part in the goal when James picked out his run down the right channel. A brilliant striker's instinct goal to glance Semenyo's cross into the far corner.

Antoine Semenyo - 7

An absolute menace for the West Brom defence. Took a while to get into the game but soon showed his class including his cross/shot that was glanced in by Wells. Didn't have much joy himself in front of goal but hammered a strike over the bar.
