Max O'Leary - 7
Had little to do in the first half but showed great anticipation to come off his line to intercept a dangerous pass forward. No chance of keeping out the opener. Kept City in it with a smart save with 12 minutes to play.
George Tanner (off 70, Cornick) - 6
Misjudged a header in the first-half which almost proved costly. had a difficult task up against Jack Clarke's pace who was getting some joy down that side. Was beaten for the goal but credit has to go to the quality of the finish.
Zak Vyner - 7
Barely gave Joe Gelhardt a touch in a relatively comfortable afternoon. Two misplaced pass in the second half with a lack of support from midfield but aside from that, controlled the game from the back.
Rob Atkinson (off 16, Kalas) - N/A
Stretchered off early in the first half following a harmless tussle with Amad Diallo on the touchline. A massive blow.
Cam Pring - 6
Pinned back for large periods of the first half, wary of the threat posed by Patrick Roberts. Left frustrated after Mehmeti failed to pick out his overlap. A couple of loose passes in dangerous areas.
Matty James - 8
Stopped everything going through the middle. Patient, disciplined and a player who is in great form at the moment. Deliveries could have been put into better areas.
Joe Williams (off 87, Dasilva) - 7
Committed display in the middle and certainly up for the scrap. Somehow managed to avoid a booking which would have kept him suspended for the next two league games.
Alex Scott - 6
Started brightly for 15 minutes but then drifted out of the game in the first half. Was being targeted by a number of strong challenges on a frustrating afternoon. Couldn't influence the game in the same way he has done in recent weeks.
Mark Sykes - 7
Could have won a penalty in the first-half when he goes down in the area after nutmegging his man. Played a superb cross to the back post in which Mehmeti should have gambled on. Moved to wing-back for the final 20 minutes.
Sam Bell (off 70, Wells) - 6
Played in the central attacking role and was never going to win the aerial battle. Given quite a thankless task in that role with City struggling to play those passes in behind to utilise his pace. Linked up well with Sykes at times but couldn't generate an opportunity on goal.
Anis Mehmeti (off 70, Weimann) - 7
So unlucky to hit the post when the keeper superbly tipped his effort onto the woodwork. Central to everything going forward. Should have had an assist at the start of the second half. So confident in taking on his man. A really encouraging performance although drifted out of the game late on. Needs to release the ball quicker at times.
Substitutes
Tomas Kalas (on 16, Atkinson) - 7
Showed his experience up against the pace of Amad Diallo at times. Looked slightly rusty on occasions due to his lack of football but was positionally aware to stop the threat of Sunderland. Will need some time to build a relationship with Pring and Vyner.
Andi Weimann (on 70, Mehmeti) - 6
Couldn't influence the game on the left side and drifted into the middle the final 10 minutes.
Nahki Wells (on 70, Bell) - 7
Had a chance at the back post but just couldn't turn it goalwards on the angle. Buried the penalty in the final moments.
Harry Cornick (on 70, Tanner) - 6
Got into some good areas but without the end product. Wasteful with a cross in the 90th minute.
Jay Dasilva (on 87, Williams) - 7
Only on the pitch for a few minutes before winning the penalty.
