Bristol City player ratings vs Rotherham: Welcome back Kal Naismith as Conway proves a handful

Max O'Leary - 7

A few wayward kicks but was positive in coming out and punching a number of dangerous in-swinging crosses. Some really brave goalkeeping at times, especially from deliveries out wide and barely put a foot wrong. Made a terrific save at the end.

George Tanner - 7

Was steady on the right of the back three without being spectacular. Teamed up with Weimann well to keep his side quiet but it's worth noting he made a number of really good defensive clearances from set-pieces.

Andy King - 7

Back in the middle of the defensive three and sat a couple of yards deeper than his defensive partners. Sometimes struggled with the pace of Ogbene, one that led to a booking. Really disciplined in the second half and made a crucial header off his own line.

Kal Naismith - 8

Played a couple of superb passes through the lines including sparking a move that led to City's second goal when his ball found Conway. Dangerous from corners. Played those intricate passes into Matty James and made a brilliant defensive header to keep City ahead.

Cam Pring - 7

Involved in a tough battle against Arsenal academy product Brooke Norton-Cuffy and couldn't stop the cross that led to Rotherham's equaliser. A nervy opening 20 minutes but improved as the game went on. Scored his first City goal when he headed in Scott's superb cross.

Matty James - 6

The deepest midfielder and had to be efficient in a game that was scrappy in the middle of the park. Happy to collect the ball from deep and turn to get City going forward.

Joe Williams - 7

Goals are coming like buses, although I'm not sure he knew much about it when Conway's cross came back off his knee. Spread the ball out well to the wing-backs to create space on the pitch and had to be effective in the tackle in the second half. Threw himself into the tackles.

Alex Scott - 7

Quiet in the first half but had a moment of quality when he skipped past two challenges and played Wells through. A scrappy battle in midfield meant he rarely got space to operate and showcase his class but it was a dogged showing. A brilliant cross for Pring to score City's crucial third goal.

Andi Weimann (off 52, Sykes) - 6

Didn't get himself into the game in the opening 45 minutes in an attacking sense but remained resolute at the back, having the energy to get back and help out Tanner. Took a nasty one to the Achilles early in the second half which forced him off.

Nahki Wells (off 74, Semenyo) - 7

Superb to use his strength to shrug off the challenge and send a delivery into the box that led to City's opener. Held the ball up really well and looked lively with his movement. Saw a lot of the ball in the first half and used it effectively but dipped out of the game in the second half. Did his defensive duties really well.

Tommy Conway (off 79, Bell) - 8

His pace troubled the 35-year-old defender Lee Peltier all afternoon with City exploiting that weakness by dropping balls in behind. It led to Conway assisting City's second when his cross was turned in by Williams. Ran the channels and relieved the pressure on his side in the second half.

Substitutes

Mark Sykes (on 52, Weimann) - 6

Offered energy and pace on his introduction. Provided resilience on that right flank and wasn't troubled defensively.

Antoine Semenyo - (on 74, Wells) - 6

Created space and his movement offered something for Rotherham to think about but didn't make much of an impact going forward.

Sam Bell (on 79, Conway) - N/A
