Bristol City player ratings vs Cardiff: Martin the star of the show as Alex Scott impresses

Max O'Leary - 6

Little to do in the first half, boosted his early confidence with a save from distance. Had little chance with Collins' header for the opener but showed composure on the ball with his feet.

Tomas Kalas - 7

Instrumental in the victory as his aerial dominance kept Cardiff's aerial bombardment at bay. Marlon Pack's long throws and a whole host of corners were dealt with effectively. Lost count the amount of times he headed the ball clear.

Rob Atkinson (off 16) - 5

Tested early doors with Cardiff's aerial bombardment but dealt with everything that came his way. Hobbled off injured after 16 minutes adding to City's lack of depth at the back.

Cam Pring - 6

The birthday boy was given a tough afternoon dealing with Cardiff's punts into the box but, like Kalas, remained composed under pressure and can celebrate tonight knowing he put in yet another self-assured performance.

Alex Scott - 8

Initially struggled in the opening 20 minutes as most of Cardiff's attacks came down his side but moved into the middle following King's injury. Looked more comfortable in a central role, making a brilliant block on Doyle's shot. Certainly grew into the contest and his switch into the middle could have been a blessing in disguise with a mature performance.

Callum O'Dowda - 6

A consistent performance out on the left without any fireworks. Worked hard out of possession and almost had an assist when Martin's header was cleared off the line.

Andy King (off 28) - 5

A tough cameo for the veteran as Cardiff's pair of central midfielders dominated early possession. Was then forced off just before the 30-minute mark and punched the ball into the stands in frustration.

Han-Noah Massengo - 6

At fault for the opener after winning the ball back in his own half. Perhaps inexperience as he then gifted possession to Tommy Doyle whose cross found Collins. Stacks of energy but often over-excited at times conceding free-kicks in dangerous positions. Did show plenty of discipline in the final 15 minutes.

Andreas Weimann - 8

A lot of hard work trying to play between the lines but struggled to get himself on the ball in the opening 45 minutes. None of that mattered when he put the game to bed in the closing stages with a terrific finish with his left foot.

Chris Martin - 9

That performance will do his chances of a start against Luton no harm whatsoever. His first strike was excellent, opening his body on the edge of the box before finding the corner. His second was arguably better on his left as he powered an effort with pinpoint accuracy into the bottom corner. A great day at the office for the big man.

Antoine Semenyo - 8

Very quiet opening 45 minutes with McGuinness marking him very closely but came to life in the second half and showed a glimpse of his quality with a left-footed effort at Smithies. Moments later he assisted Martin's second with a deft touch and should have had a goal for himself but cannoned the side netting from close distance before later hitting the post. Assisted Weimann to put the game beyond doubt - a real handful.

Subs

Vyner (on 16) - 7

Endured a torrid time at Fulham last weekend and not even he could have expected to have been introduced so early on. Looked calm and composed at the back, keeping Cardiff's Mark Harris quiet.

Dasilva (on 28) - 5

Back into that right wing-back role following King's injury and although unspectacular, was solid enough in the position to make a statement that he can do a job there.

Subs not used: Bentley, Williams, Wells, Conway, Benarous
