Bristol City player ratings vs Reading: Scott and Williams show their quality as Robins cling on

Max O'Leary - 7

A few dodgy kicks in the early stages, but dealt well with the crosses that came into the box. A safe pair of hands and stood up to the task in the final 15 minutes when Reading peppered his goal. No chance with the penalty and will feel unlucky not to have kept a clean sheet.

Zak Vyner - 7

Impressive in the first half playing on the right of the back three. Made a crucial block against Joao in the opening 45 minutes and continued his performance into the second half. Not many attacks came down his side. Didn't put a foot wrong.

Tomas Kalas - 7

Was booked in the first half for a late challenge and was therefore walking a tightrope in the second half. However, with little to defend, he did little wrong and made a good block against Tom Ince. A relatively comfortable night until Reading put on the pressure in the final 15 minutes although he stood up to the task - just about.

Timm Klose - 7

Shades of Beckenbauer in the first half (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration) but he pulled off an outrageous piece of skill early on and barely put a foot wrong until he conceded the penalty. Ince danced into the box and he bodychecked the winger. Could have no complaints but it was the only thing he did wrong.

Cam Pring - 8

Moved to a left wing-back role and attempted to show his urgency going forward. A couple of misplaced passes early doors but played the all-important one to Weimann before the Austrian assisted Semenyo. Grabbed an assist for the second when his cross deflected off Reading's Michael Morrison. Not a bad day at the office before being subbed. All Reading's attacks came down that left side after coming off.

Jay Dasilva - 8

Looks more and more comfortable on this right side. Wasn't given much of a test defensively on his side and was allowed to press forward to give the Reading defenders something to think about. His pace is invaluable when he needs to backtrack.

Alex Scott - 8

Almost grabbed the second but unfortunately for him, went down as an own-goal. He was everywhere in midfield, a class above compared to his opponents. Summed up by a majestic bit of play where he skipped past two in the first half. Bags of energy emphasised by a surging run towards the end.

Han-Noah Massengo (off 16) - 6

His evening only lasted 16 minutes after being forced off with an injury. It appeared to come from an innocuous challenge deep in Reading's half and he never recovered. Was his usual energetic self until being replaced by Joe Williams.

Andi Weimann - 7

Was struggling to get into the contest until he burst into life for City's opener. Forced a save from Hein before squaring it to Semenyo who couldn't miss. His runs down the channel caused problems and whipped in a couple of dangerous crosses but nobody could get on the end of them.

Chris Martin - 5

Looked leggy and tired after playing the full 90 minutes in each of City's last four matches before tonight. Was a similar story at Blackpool and looks as though he needs a rest. Perhaps would have come off if Wells was available.

Antoine Semenyo - 7

Grabbed the crucial opener that settled the nerves among the players and supporters. One of the easiest goals he will score this season. Livened up after his strike and also hit the post in the second half. He'll be more than happy with his contribution.

Substitutes

Joe Williams (on for Massengo, 16) - 8

Oh, how City have missed Williams in midfield. Showed his leadership skills when City were under the cosh after Reading had pulled one back. Effective going forward and launched himself into tackles when needed - heroic defending at the end.

Callum O'Dowda (on for Pring, 67) - 5

A huge sigh of relief with seven minutes left on the clock when he lost possession deep in his own half before Reading's half-hearted penalty appeal. A lucky escape. Subbed off with an apparent injury in the final few moments.

Robbie Cundy (on for O'Dowda, 86) - N/A

Subs not used: Bentley, Bell, Conway, Benarous
