Bristol City player ratings: Alex Scott superb once again but Coventry snatch late winner

Dan Bentley - 7

No chance with Coventry's opening goal as it flashed past him in the blink of an eye and into the bottom corner. Nothing else to do in the opening 45 minutes. Huge stop to deny Callum O'Hare from doubling Coventry's advantage. Another important save with the scores level to deny Maatsen. Will be disappointed to let Gyokeres' winner go under his body.

Sam Bell - 6

His positioning was found wanting a couple of times in the first-half but a lot of the play came down his side. Showed plenty of willingness, not afraid to have the ball at his feet and grew into the game - similarly to how he did against Boro. Doesn't look out of place.

Tomas Kalas - 7

Knew he was in a game this evening against Viktor Gyokeres but dealt with the physical striker well for large periods. His opponent did get in behind on a couple of occasions and he ultimately proved to score the winner although Kalas can't be blamed as Williams lost the ball deep in his own half.

Timm Klose - 7

The Swiss defender was assured for the majority of the game and will be disappointed to have been breached twice. Looked very comfortable alongside Kalas in a back four. A number of important interceptions but he was handed a stern test against a Coventry side who moved the ball around quickly around the box.

Jay Dasilva - 6

Started the game confidently out on the left emphasised by a piece of skill to bamboozle his man on the touchline. Not a standout performance but a solid one nonetheless. Had an opportunity to score but his weak strike was straight at the keeper.

Han-Noah Massengo - 6

Certainly didn't get himself on the ball as much as he would have liked in the opening 45 minutes and was certainly more effective in the second half as City pressed forward. Had a decent opportunity blocked and was more influential as he started to find space against a tiring Coventry side. Was unfortunately at fault for Coventry's winner when he sloppily gave the ball away.

Alex Scott - 8

Played in the deeper defensive midfield role and impressed with his tenacity. Threw his body on the line and made an important defensive block in the second half. Superb deliveries at times, including one in which Semenyo cannoned off the bar with his head. It was his initial cross that found Weimann before Martin headed home.

Ayman Benarous - 6

Started very brightly and certainly was eager to impress with a dogged performance winning the ball back in his own half on a couple of occasions. Faded as the game went on and was replaced with 15 minutes left on the clock. Glimmer of his potential without pulling up trees.

Andi Weimann - 7

Was marked out of the game in the opening 45 minutes by Gustavo Hamer but did have a glimmer of goal when he headed narrowly wide. Came to life in the second and superbly assisted Martin with a great header back across goal. A couple of teasing crosses which his team-mates couldn't convert.

Chris Martin - 8

Rewarded for his unselfishness by getting on the scoresheet himself. Couldn't miss from close range, scoring at a crucial time in the contest. A typical Martin-like performance, winning headers in his own half and held the ball up well to get his team-mates involved.

Antoine Semenyo - 7

A quiet first half by his standards although had City's best chance of the half when he was played in on goal by Todd Kane. He dragged his shot well wide when squaring to Weimann would have been a better option. So unlucky to hit the bar with a header in the second half. Could have had a goal on any other day, terrifying his defenders at times.

Substitutes

Cam Pring (for Bell, 76) - 6

Solid defensively and made a brilliant tackle when his man got in behind.

Joe Williams (for Benarous, 76) - 6

Unlucky in his role in the winner as Massengo's pass left him short.

Subs not used: Wiles-Richards, Zak Vyner, Tommy Conway,
