The search goes on, the frustration grows and the bookies odds continue to fluctuate.
Bristol City are nearing five weeks since Lee Johnson was sacked as manager and have taken their time over an appointing a successor, much to the growing annoyance of supporters.
Bristol Live understands that the club favour Dean Holden as the man to take charge and that has been reflected in the most recent bookies odds, with Holden sitting a top a range of previously reported on candidates.
However it has taken him a while to get there, sitting at odds of 25/1 just over a week ago behind the likes of Ryan Lowe and John Terry.
Paul Cook and Chris Hughton, who have both also spoken to the club about the vacancy, have joined Holden and Alex Neil at the top of the bookies list for the past several days but Neil and Cook have now slipped away.
Despite Cook recently resigning from his job as Wigan boss, he is looking unlikely to take the job and while no final decisions have yet been made, Hughton appears to be the only man close to challenging Holden for the top job.
The odds have fluctuated massively, with a different name topping the list every few days from early favourite Tony Pulis, to Holden currently on top.
Back on July 28, Chris Hughton sat as odds on favourite, followed by Neil on 6/1 and Ryan Lowe on 12/1, with Holden further behind on 25/1 before he slowly started to climb his way up the list.
Holden jumped to 9/1 a couple of days later, and as we crept into August had his odds cut from 12/1, to 6/1 and now sits at 4/9 above Hughton.
The former Newcastle and Brighton manager has seen his odds steadily drop as Holden and Cook became more prevalent in the betting. His odds were as low as 11/2 on August 2 and currently sits at 3/1.
Paul Cook has been sitting as the bookies favourite for much for the previous week, with odds as low as 1/2 on August 1 and 11/10 on August 3, but he is now at 8/1 and appears to be looking elsewhere for employment.
Alex Neil had a short stint as favourite on July 31, with odds of 11/10 and was sitting pretty at the top of the betting list, but has fallen away and never looked entirely likely to take over with a reported £3 million buyout clause in his Preston contract.
See how the odds currently lie below:
- Dean Holden 4/9
- Chris Hughton 3/1
- Paul Cook 8/1
- Alex Neil 9/1
