Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson hits out at certain individuals after humbling defeat

Nigel Pearson is running out of patience with certain individuals in his side after more away-day blues for Bristol City.

The Robins were humbled by the seaside as Blackpool scored three soft goals to ensure City's wait for an away victory stretched to over four months.

CJ Hamilton opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark after Callum O'Dowda failed to clear his lines before City conceded with another set-piece just two minutes later when Gary Madine headed home.

The impressive Josh Bowler put the game to bed minutes into the second period before Nahki Wells grabbed a late consolation goal to give the travelling fans something to cheer on a miserable, rain-soaked afternoon at Bloomfield Road.

Pearson was understandably frustrated at the full-time whistle and questioned whether certain players can deal with the pressures of playing Championship football.

He said: "I suppose in some ways it's whether players can deal with the pressures of being first-team performers and that's going to be something which we may have to put up with in the short term because that's where we are at the moment.

"Unfortunately we have players who keep making the same mistakes. Ultimately, if players aren't able to find that sort of solution then it's about changing players.

"What is a frustration for us is that individuals... their range of potential performances are too big at the moment so it goes from excellent one week to not very good the next.

"We don't have enough seven out of 10s in our team at the moment and that's something that is - whatever the reasons for it, that needs to improve for us to make progress over a longer term.

"Individual performances within the team don't hit the same levels often enough. That's something that we need to better at to make progress but ultimately the three goals that we conceded were very poor goals."

It's now nine consecutive league games for City where they have conceded at least two and confidence at the back appears to be dwindling quickly with every passing week.

When Pearson was asked on his assessment of Blackpool's goals, he believes all three were avoidable.

"The first two goals were avoidable as we had opportunities to clear," he added.

"The first goal we had two opportunities to clear and we haven't done so and the second one is not staying with our markers.

"And the third is a poor goal to giveaway. We've talked about that exact situation in the build-up to the game so they're all very, very regrettable and avoidable goals that we've conceded.

"We can't have to expect to score two or three goals to get anything from a game.

"We've still had opportunities in the second half, we've had chances that we have not really done enough with. Unfortunately, we are going home disappointed again because we've not performed at the level that we can."
