Bristol City manager names price for Alex Scott after commenting on Wolves transfer interest

Nigel Pearson has denied Wolves have made an offer for midfielder Alex Scott and insists only a bid over £25million would be enough to entice him away from Bristol City.

Reports in the Telegraph on Thursday suggest the Premier League side were ready to renew their interest in the 19-year-old midfielder with a £20m bid after being put off by City's £25m price-tag in January. West Ham and Tottenham are two other clubs who are keen admirers although there are thought to be up to half a dozen top-flight clubs monitoring his situation.

Scott was in brilliant form once again in City's comfortable 2-0 victory over Blackpool in front of the Sky Sports cameras and scored his first league goal of the campaign when he put the game beyond doubt in the second half. Harry Cornick's low cross was deflected into his path and the midfielder left the keeper with little chance, firing into the bottom corner.

Pearson was under no illusions that the club will have to entertain bids for the talent during the summer but was clear in his stance that any interest is limited to just reports and speculation, for now. Speaking after the game, he said: "The bids that nobody has heard of? The reports coming from reporters and agents? We've had no bids for players so there you go.

"It wouldn't surprise me that clubs are interested in him but there have been no bids. Whoever makes a proper bid at some point, will have to be a really big bid to get him.

"He has to be more than £25m, he shouldn't go for less than that. Since he made his debut, he's played upmost of 80 games for us. Some people talk about playing in a second season you can get a drop-off but I don't think we have seen that at all.

"I don't really spend a lot of time thinking about it, I'm aware of speculation but that's all it is. There's no doubt in my mind we'll have to deal with bids this summer, I think that will happen. But it's speculation at the minute, it's not club-to-club."

Scott has often been the source of speculation since his breakthrough campaign last season and his most recent performance in the defeat against Manchester City further highlighted both his ability and potential. His showing received high praise from the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jack Grealish and Roy Keane but it's a credit to him that he has remained level-headed despite the admiration.

The ball remains in the Robins' court with Scott's future. The amount of interest in his signature means they can drive up the price while they also have the added security of his contract which expires in the summer of 2025.

Pearson added: "He's managed to continue his development with a pretty steady upward curve over the two years he has played here now. I think that speaks volumes about his ability and his potential too.

"It's difficult for a young man not to have an interest in it (the speculation) he'll play for a top side, absolutely no doubt in my mind about that. He will go onto really big things.

"He's been frustrated with not scoring goals but he's a really good player and he will only get better. I thought he was excellent today, really good.

"It's good for him to get his goal. Regarding the speculation about other clubs, I'm really not interested."
