Bristol City’s squad numbers for the 2022/23 season have been released with star talents Alex Scott and Antoine Semenyo given prime slots in the starting XI, while Tyreeq Bakinson and Nathan Baker have not been given shirts for the forthcoming campaign.
Scott has been handed the No7 shirt after an outstanding breakout season in which he made 38 appearances in his first professional campaign, moving up from No36, with the last person to wear the number being Chris Martin in 2020/21. Striker Semenyo held the No18 shirt last season but has now been moved up to No11, replacing Callum O’Dowda following his departure on a free transfer.
Both highlight the importance of the youngsters to Nigel Pearson as key members of the first team, and their overall development at City.
Elsewhere there are “promotions” for academy players Tommy Conway, Ayman Benarous, Ryley Towler, Duncan Idehen and Sam Bell - all moving up from the 30s - while midfielders Dylan Kadji and Josh Owers are given numbers for the first time having training with the first team for several months and travelled with the matchday squad.
New signings Kane Wilson (No2) and Kal Naismith (No4) are given prime numbers, with the last players to wear those particular shirts being Jack Hunt and Adam Nagy.
Tyreeq Bakinson’s exile continues with the midfielder not even given a shirt number for 2022/23 as the midfielder continues to train with the Under-23s as the Robins look to negotiate a transfer away from the club for the 23-year-old.
Nathan Baker’s name is also sadly missing from the list, his No17 shirt taken by new arrival Mark Sykes, with Pearson admitting last month it’s highly unlikely the defender will feature next season following his two concussions sustained last term.
