Bristol Bears appoint former player as their new assistant forwards coach

Bristol Bears have confirmed that former Bristol player Chris Morgan will join the club as assistant forwards coach in June.

The 41-year-old has previously worked as Worcester Warriors Academy forwards and transition coach and assistant coach at Championship side Cornish Pirates for whom the former backrower made 227 appearances and spent four seasons as captain.

Morgan will assist newly appointed senior forwards coach Mark Irish who will step up from scrum coach to replace the out-going John Muldoon.

Burnham-on-Sea-born Morgan played for Bristol between 2000 and 2006 and worked with Irish at Worcester where he was the Warriors' scrum and assistant forwards coach until 2022.

Bears director of rugby Pat Lam said: “Chris is an exciting young coach who has a strong pedigree and an excellent understanding of our game and what we want to achieve.

“He has experience in both the Premiership and Championship and will work closely with Mark Irish on all aspects of our forward play.”

Morgan said: “To fulfil the role of Bears assistant forwards coach is a massive honour that I am privileged to take on. I am excited by the challenges ahead and supporting the growth of the players.”
