Bristol Airport's Superdrug store to close for good tomorrow

Bristol Airport's Superdrug store will close its doors, or rather lower its shutters, for good on Saturday, October 29. A new pop-up health and beauty shop is reported to be replacing it and is due to open in the next few weeks.

In a tweet this afternoon (Friday, October 28) Bristol Airport announced: "Our Superdrug store will close on Saturday, October 29. If you are travelling from Sunday onwards, you will find a limited range of health and beauty products in our WHSmith stores.

"An exciting new pop-up health and beauty shop is due to open in the coming weeks." The Superdrug store is currently situated on the first floor of the airport, past security and duty free and next door to Claire's.

Superdrug is the second largest health and beauty retailer in the UK, after Boots and is part of the AS Watson Group, which comprises of such brands as The Perfume Shop. At one time, it had around 800 branches across the UK and Ireland.

According to a report from The Grocer in 2021, Superdrug saw high street footfall plummet 75 per cent during the first national lockdown, resulting in 230 temporary store closures and 13 permanent store closures, which took its number of branches down to around 787.

According to its Store Locator, Superdrug now has five stores in Bristol. Customers have expressed their disappointment in response to the announcement.

Commenting on Bristol Airport's Facebook page, one passenger wrote: "Well that makes hand luggage only a bit difficult. Was relying on getting sun lotion in Superdrug."

Another added: "That’s a real shock as I used it every time and you didn’t need your boarding pass as you do in Smiths." Others said they would miss the meal deals there, with one person in particular highlighting its gluten-free sandwich options.
