Bristol Airport renews Mitie baggage contract in £3m deal

Bristol Airport has agreed a £3m baggage screening contract renewal with facilities management firm Mitie.

The three-year deal - worth £1m a year - extends the London-based facilities management firm’s partnership with the airport, which spans more than 20 years.

Mitie will continue to deliver security services by monitoring thousands of pieces of check-in luggage for the nine million passengers who fly from Bristol each year.

The company added it was working with the transport hub to develop “a new industry leading method” of baggage screening, as part of efforts to find opportunities for innovation and efficiency.

Mitie also holds a range of different contracts with other UK airports including Heathrow, Birmingham, London City, London Stansted and Belfast City.

Graeme Gamble, chief operating officer at Bristol Airport, said: “The award of this new contract follows a competitive tender process and we are looking forward to working with Mitie over the next three years to provide excellent service to deliver professional screening services for our customers.

“Mitie has been a valued business partner for more than two decades and this new contract will ensure the ongoing high levels of baggage screening will continue in the years ahead.”

Jason Towse, managing director of business services at Mitie, added: “Having provided services to Bristol Airport for over 20 years, we are delighted to be continuing our strong relationship with this new contract, as we continue to deliver professional screening services.

“Using our expertise in the aviation industry, we look forward to protecting millions more passengers passing through the busiest airport in the South West in the years to come.”

Mitie employs around 75,000 staff and has customers within financial services, manufacturing, transport, retail, telecoms and increasingly in the public sector.
