Bristol Airport attack - shocking video shows moment passenger punches security

Footage has been shared on social media of a drunken passenger shoving his partner over and flooring two security guards with one lunging punch after they were told they would not be allowed to board a flight from Bristol Airport.

The incident, wich you can view below, happened last Friday (June 17) when according to an eyewitness, a man and a woman were waiting to board the 17.45 easyJet flight to Alicante - but were stopped from joining the other passengers because they were 'intoxicated'.

Bristol Live reported that two people had been arrested and a man had received a conditional caution following the incident, but now a video of what happened has been circulated on social media.

The video shows a woman arguing with two airport staff who were blocking her access through the boarding gate.

She shouts and throws what appears to be a ticket or boarding card at the two men.

Suddenly, a man standing behind her shoves her out of the way - she falls into a column in the airport departure lounge and ends up on the floor. The man lunges at the shorter of the two members of staff, pushing him to the ground with his left hand while he punches the taller man behind with his right. All three men end up on the floor, and the man quickly regains his feet and goes back to his position outside the departure gate.

A member of the public steps in between the two men, and has to restrain the taller security guard who was punched, from approaching the attacker.

At the time, Bristol Live reported that one eyewitness, Steve Rich, said: "All of a sudden the passenger just threw a fist over one of the guy's shoulders, and just caught the security guard on the mouth."

The 33-year-old from Wiltshire said it was 'unnecessary' and caused some distress among people who saw it. "The two girls who were working the (gate) were in floods of tears because it's scary for them.

"Before the security arrived you've got these two people saying, 'how are you going to stop us getting through to get on this flight?' They were in tears and there were kids everywhere, I had my six-year-old."

Speaking to Bristol Live a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the arrests. They said: “At around 9.30pm on Friday (17 June), officers based at Bristol Airport responded to a report that members of security staff had been assaulted after two people were stopped from boarding a flight, due to being intoxicated.

“A 39-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assault. They were both interviewed and given conditional cautions.”

A spokesperson for Bristol Airport said: “Anti-social, violent, or threatening behaviour will not be accepted by Bristol Airport or airlines. Whilst such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and will fully support any police investigation.”
