'Bring the jumper' warning as one area won't be as warm as others this weekend

A weather expert has warned beachgoers on one side of the country to "bring a jumper" due to the contrast in temperature between east and west over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather has informed that the cool breeze on the east of the country "isn't going anywhere."

Posting to his popular Twitter page, Mr O'Reilly said: "Heading to the beach this weekend? Well bring the jumper if heading East and the short sleeves if heading West but bring the sunscreen regardless. That East to Northeast wind isn’t going anywhere."

Met Éireann has outlined that this Friday will be a "largely sunny day" however there will be "some cloud at times" especially in the north and east at first and later in the southwest.

Highest temperatures this Friday in the west of Ireland will be 24C, while the east will be 16C, particularly near the Irish Sea.

The Bank Holiday sunshine is expected to continue into the weekend. Met Éireann said of Saturday: "Another dry, mild day with plenty of sunshine. Cloud will bubble up at times, especially over Ulster. Highest temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees generally, coolest in the east and warmest in the west, all in light to moderate easterly breezes."

Sunday will bring temperatures of 24C or 25C degrees in the west, while mercury will top out at 18C in the east.

On the forecast for the Bank Holiday Monday, Met Éireann said: "Largely dry and sunny though cloud will build at times bringing the chance of isolated light showers, most likely in the north. Noticeably milder in the east than previous day as highest temperatures will range from 19 or 20 degrees in the north and east to 25 degrees in the west and southwest, all in mostly light easterly breezes."
