Brighton vs Nottingham Forest LIVE: FA Cup result, latest updates and reaction after penalty shootout

Forest beat Brighton on penalties on Saturday night - (REUTERS)

Nottingham Forest secured a place in the FA Cup semi-finals by beating Brighton & Hove Albion 4-3 in a penalty shootout when Ryan Yates smashed home the winner after the game finished goalless following extra time.

Forest keeper Matz Sels saved Jack Hinshelwood's low shot towards the bottom corner before keeping out Diego Gomez's attempt into the middle of the goal either side of the visitors' missed effort from Neco Williams that flew over the bar.

Crystal Palace also progressed with a 3-0 win at Fulham in their quarter-final earlier on Saturday.

Second-tier Preston North End host seven-times winners Aston Villa before Manchester City, who have also had seven triumphs, visit Bournemouth in the remaining last-eight ties on Sunday.

Team news is on the way!

When is FA Cup draw? Start time, ball numbers, TV channel and live stream for semi-finals

15:32 , Jonathan Gorrie

The FA Cup semi-final draw will take place on Sunday.

One of the most open FA Cup competitions in recent history is preparing for the final legs, with Wembley set to host both semi-finals and, of course, the final.

Eight will become four this weekend after Crystal Palace beat Fulham, before Brighton entertain Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa make a trip to Preston and cup favourites Manchester City are at Bournemouth.

For most of the teams left in the competition, a rare trip to Wembley is in the offing. For Championship side Preston, should they beat Aston Villa, it will be their first FA Cup semi-final place since losing to West Ham in the 1964 final.

Here’s all you need to know about the FA Cup semi-final draw…

Brighton vs Nottingham Forest prediction

15:01 , George Flood

This is a really interesting cup tie and one which is hard to predict.

It’s seventh hosting third in Premier League terms, with the latter having scored seven in their previous meeting.

However, Brighton have barely put a foot wrong since, winning six and drawing one of their last seven, and have scored 17 goals in that stretch.

They are no pushovers and will be confident of avenging that humbling loss, especially against a Forest side who will be missing their talisman in Chris Wood.

These games are also fairly feisty affairs, so expect a few tough tackles to come flying in.

Brighton to win, in extra time.

Nottingham Forest team news

14:59

The headline team news for Nottingham Forest is of course the absence of Chris Wood, who suffered a hip injury playing for New Zealand against New Caledonia on Monday.

He went to see a specialist and underwent a scan on Thursday, with Forest still nervously awaiting the outcome.

Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel is also out, with the club having been assessing the likes of Murillo, Ola Aina and Ramon Sosa following their respective returns from international duty.

Brighton team news

14:55

Brighton are expecting to have both captain Lewis Dunk and summer signing Matt O’Riley fit to return from injury this afternoon, with Solly March also thought to be in contention.

Key attackers Kaoru Mitoma and Joao Pedro should be fit to start after respective issues, meanwhile.

Tariq Lamptey is out though, along with Joel Veltman, James Milner, Ferdi Kadioglu, Jason Steele and Igor Julio.

The FA Cup quarter-final action continues on the sunny south coast this afternoon with another spot at Wembley up for grabs.

After Crystal Palace’s comprehensive 3-0 victory over London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage at lunchtime, we have another all-Premier League showdown coming up at the Amex Stadium.

High-flying Nottingham Forest are looking to defy the absence of injured top scorer Chris Wood to book a first semi-final clash since 1991 as they face a Brighton team out for revenge after being thrashed 7-0 at the City Ground last month.

Kick-off is at 5:15pm GMT, so stay tuned for all the latest team news, build-up and live updates.
