Brighton's Irish stopper Killian Cahill focused on Premier League dream

Brighton's new signing Killian Cahill has revealed his elation at signing for the Premier League side from Shamrock Rovers.

Cahill signed for Brighton earlier this month after spending seven years in Tallaght, and he is now expected to battle it out with fellow underage stoppers Hugo Fisher and Tommy Reid in Albion's Under-18 ranks.

The move has yet to fully sink in thus far, yet Cahill is very much clear on his main objective; to become a Premier League goalkeeper.

He said: "It's amazing to sign here. From the age of four or five, the goal was to be in the Premier League and it's great to be a step closer to that goal.

"You go from playing with your local team to Shamrock Rovers, and there I was playing and working to get to this level.

"But when you take that step to a Premier League club, it does feel a bit surreal; you're as close to the Premier League as you can get at this age. Now it's about making that step up."

Cahill described some of his own attributes as a player, noting his own love for getting involved with the outfield players.

He explained: "I've always played with the outfielders.

"I think it's the ball, especially with how the game has changed. I like to have the ball at my feet; in training and certain game situations I Like to see myself as an outfielder.

"The most important thing is being a reliable goalkeeper though and doing the traditional things right."

Cahill may eventually cross paths with former Ireland Under-21 Gary Dicker, who is posted at the club as a player-coach with the Seagulls' Under-23 side.
