Brighton manager Graham Potter reacts to Manchester United and Moises Caicedo transfer links

Brighton manager Graham Potter has poured cold water on suggestions highly-rated defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo could leave the club this summer amid ongoing links with Manchester United.

Caicedo, 20, has impressed for the Seagulls as he continues to develop and was a shining light for them during the opening day victory at Old Trafford. United were beaten 2-1 by Brighton and followed that up with another reverse against Brentford in their subsequent Premier League fixture.

It means they're rooted to the bottom without a single point before the Monday night showdown with arch-rivals Liverpool. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, United continue to work on their recruitment drive after signing left-back Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez so far this summer.

A new central midfielder is next on the agenda as Real Madrid star Casemiro edges closer to Old Trafford.

United initially wanted Declan Rice and subsequently turned their attention to Frenkie de Jong when Erik ten Hag was appointed as manager. However, there have been some well-documented stumbling blocks when it comes to that would-be pursuit as Casemiro now takes centre stage.

As for Caicedo, United were reported to be weighing-up a move for him following his impressive early-season performances with the Seagulls. He starred against United on the opening day and has several clubs keen on winning the race for his signature before the window slams shut on Thursday, September 1.

Brighton, though, are calm about that prospect. Speaking ahead of their game against West Ham this weekend, Potter said: "He is a really humble person.

"Loves playing football, is really low maintenance as a player, and just wants to join in football with his teammates. He is really enjoying his football as you can imagine. He is only young but he has got such a high possibility. We love him here."

Potter added: "In regards to speculation, it is what it is. When the transfer window is open you always get that stuff but he is really enjoying his football here and we are really enjoying having him."
