Brighton handed major injury concern before Premier League fixture vs Manchester United

Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu is a doubt to meet Manchester United on Saturday afternoon after picking up a groin injury during an eye-catching win over Wolves in their last Premier League fixture. United are ready for a long trip to Sussex after first taking on Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night (8pm).

Victories for Arsenal and Tottenham added another nail into the coffin for United and their top-four ambitions. As a result they might have to settle for a Europa League spot - but even that revised target is no guarantee given West Ham and other teams remain in the chase.

Despite a mid-season blip the Seagulls are, meanwhile, on course for a top-half finish. However, their classy victory over Wolves came at a cost when Mwepu was forced from the pitch.

The 24-year-old has earned rave reviews this season for his performances in the Brighton engine room. He regularly combines with Yves Bissouma - who was on target against Wolves - and Moises Caicedo in an all-action central trio which have provided a sound platform for Graham Potter and his plucky team to shine.

Speaking about the injury to Mwepu post-match, Potter said: "I think he felt his groin a little bit. Whether it was just fatigue we will see. In the next 24-48 hours we will have more of an idea.

Zambia international Mwepu asked to be replaced after seemingly feeling pain in his leg. He has not had too much luck with injuries this season, as the Brighton midfielder has spent time on the side-lines with various issues such as Covid-19 as well groin and hamstring problems.
