Brighton FC Posts Record Profit, Manager De Zerbi's Future Uncertain

Brighton & Hove Albion FC

Premier League club Brighton announced a significant after-tax profit of £122.8 million ($154.4 million) for the 2022-23 season, marking a substantial increase from the previous year's profit of £24.1 million ($30.3 million). This surge in profit was attributed to the sales of key players such as Alexis Mac Allister, Yves Bissouma, and Marc Cucurella, as well as compensation for former manager Graham Potter, who departed for Chelsea in September 2022.

Brighton clarified that their financial accounts did not include major transfers like Moises Caicedo and Robert Sanchez, as these deals were finalized after the reporting period. Caicedo's transfer to Chelsea was valued at up to $146 million, while Sanchez reportedly commanded a transfer fee of $32 million.

The club's financial success was further bolstered by achieving their highest-ever Premier League finish of sixth place and reaching the FA Cup semifinals. Brighton's turnover for the season reached a record high of £204.5 million ($257 million).

Despite the financial prosperity, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi's future has been subject to speculation, with his name linked to several high-profile coaching vacancies expected to arise in the upcoming summer. De Zerbi, who has previously coached teams like Shakhtar Donetsk and Sassuolo, is reportedly being considered for managerial positions at Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Liverpool.

Addressing the rumors, De Zerbi emphasized his focus on the team's current objectives and stated that discussions about his future would involve consultations with the club's owners. His existing contract with Brighton is set to expire in 2026.
