Brighton drop major Graham Potter hint amid Todd Boehly's Chelsea sacking of Thomas Tuchel

Brighton have dropped the biggest hint yet that Graham Potter will accept Todd Boehly's Chelsea offer in the end as the Blues are set to get their first choice in the quest to replace Thomas Tuchel.

Wednesday, September 7, 2022, will be remembered as an emotional day in the lives of all Chelsea fans. Not only because it was the day they had to say farewell to the much loved and appreciated Tuchel but the quest to find his replacement was lightning quick. A statement from the Club reads: "Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with head coach Thomas Tuchel.

"On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club. Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea's history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here. As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the Club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

"Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.

"There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made."

A few hours after this statement was released, it became apparently clear that Brighton's Potter and free agent Mauricio Pochettino were the two favoured candidates that the new owners wanted to put in place with the aim that either one would provide the required long-term stability. The Seagulls' decision to grant their manager time to discuss a Chelsea has since led to the former Ostersunds and Swansea boss travelling to London with his representatives to discuss terms on a potential contract.

It is understood that those talks went very well, and it is expected that an agreement will be reached in the next 24 hours with the hope that Potter can foresee his side's first game in charge just down the road at the Craven Cottage against Marco Silva's Fulham- an opponent he lost too at the same ground by 2-1 earlier in 2022/23.

Brighton have inadvertently confirmed that this switch is set to go through with their actions ahead of their trip along the south to play a Bournemouth team in transition. Following the premature sacking of Scott Parker. The Athletic's Andy Naylor tweeted: 'No Graham Potter press conference today ahead of Saturday's game at Bournemouth.

'That makes sense in the circumstances. Imagine the chaotic alternative.' Brendan Rodgers is one of the managers being considered to replace Potter if/when this move is to be completed.
