Brighton CEO makes admission about Alexis Mac Allister future amid Manchester United links

Brighton CEO Paul Barber has not ruled out a summer exit for midfielder Alexis Mac Allister amid links with a move to Manchester United.

The playmaker was a key star in Argentina’s road to World Cup glory and showed his credentials in a classy display against United in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final. The 24-year-old completed 41 of his 49 passes at Wembley after forcing David de Gea into an early save from a free-kick.

Mac Allister fired in Brighton’s first spot kick of the penalty shoot-out, which ended in disappointment as Victor Lindelof struck home the winner after Solly March’s miss. The midfielder signed a one-year contract extension with the Seagulls in October.

However, Barber hinted that a summer exit for Mac Allister - who has 10 goals and two assists in 30 matches this season - was not beyond the realms of possibility.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he explained: “Well with Alexis, we sat down before the World Cup with Carlos, Alexis’ father and his agent, and agreed on a new contract and that was about making sure Alexis was as settled as possible as he could be before the World Cup.

“And afterwards we ensured he got back focused on the Premier League, which to his credit he absolutely has done and has performed very very well.

“What the summer brings, we don’t know and we do know that our best players are going to come under a lot of scrutiny and a lot of interest and we’ll manage that as we always do, if and when it happens.”

Erik ten Hag is searching for a young midfielder to accompany a marquee striker during this summer’s transfer window. Reports suggest Mac Allister has a number of other admirers including Liverpool and Arsenal.
