Brighton 0-1 Tottenham: Harry Kane seals narrow win and limps off as Spurs pay tribute to Gian Piero Ventrone

Rich vein of form: Harry Kane has scored in each of his last four Premier League appearances

Harry Kane scored his 12th goal in as many Premier League games to inspire Tottenham to a hard-fought bounce-back victory over Brighton before limping off on an emotional evening at the Amex.

Spurs paid tribute to late fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone on Saturday night after the Italian died in Naples earlier this week aged 61, just days after being diagnosed with leukemia.

Tottenham’s players wore special warm-up shirts in memory of the popular Ventrone, saying that he would always be in their hearts, while there was a minute’s applause before kick-off as Antonio Conte revealed his “devastation” at the passing of a close friend and colleague.

An intriguing tussle with high-flying Brighton was settled by Kane, who stooped low to cleverly flick Heung-min Son’s cross beyond Robert Sanchez with a deft header in the first half.

He has now scored in four consecutive top-flight matches and tied his longest-ever scoring streak in the Premier League, per Opta Sports.

However, Kane hobbled off rather gingerly late on after receiving a hefty whack from Mac Allister while charging back to defend on the edge of his own penalty area as Spurs successfully clung on to their narrow advantage.

Both Tottenham and England will be praying that injury is nothing serious as a busy fixture schedule and the inaugural winter World Cup in Qatar loom.
