Bright pink sweet shop with huge pick 'n mix selection opens in Eastwood

A new sweet shop is set to open in Eastwood, stocking more than 160 different varieties of gummies. The Sweet Sisters shop will open on Saturday, May 7 on Nottingham Road in Eastwood.

Owner Abigail said: "The idea for the sweet shop came from my daughter Mya. She wasn't able to go trick or treating in 2020 due to restrictions but she wanted to do something. She wanted to go out and buy sweets for her friends so I went online and bought a lot of sweets. We got dressed up in costumes to drop them off to her friends."

She added: "We had loads leftover which she wanted to give to charity but there were just so many. She said, why don't we open a shop. So I rang my sister to ask her, how would you feel about opening a shop?"

Sisters Abigail Cerepovicius and Joey Berry are going into business together (Abigail Cerepovicius)

Abigail's sister, Joey Berry, phoned back an hour later to say she was in. The sisters decided to offer a huge variety of stock including gluten-free, sugar-free and vegan options. They started to import sweets from Sweden at their homes which is how the businesses began.

When it comes to going into businesses with family, it can be tricky but Abigail believes the answer lies in a good hug and some space. "I wouldn't go into business with anyone else. It can be hit or miss going into business with family. We have some fallouts but we just take a break and hug before forgetting about it and moving on. It can be difficult to work with your family. Everyone needs to just hug it out."

The shop will have a wide range that will appeal to everyone from adults to children. The sisters are hoping to attract the passengers by and local children after school ends for the day.

"We stock a wide range and tried to have a bit of everything if we could. We have traditional boiled sweets and a massive pick n mix with over 160 varieties. We like to have a huge range of vegan, fizzy and retro sweets for people to choose from. We also stock the Brain Licker sweets that the kids love that turn your tongue blue, she said.

"There is a huge range of UK and American sweets too but we will stock more adult options like nougat and fudge."

The shop is in a prime location for local children as they finish school and will bring new life to the street with its bright pink exterior. Abigail is delighted to see new businesses opening in Eastwood especially after Covid has made it difficult for retail.

"Last year, when I walked through Eastwood, it was like a ghost town. It wasn't nice to see as businesses were suffering. However, it's starting to come back. Saturday afternoons are quite busy which is lovely to see. It's great to see all the new businesses setting up. We have a new cafe near us called the Greenhouse which is great."

Sadly, the launch date for the shop has had to be postponed until Saturday, May 7 as both sisters currently have Covid. It will open with special goodie bags, balloons and decorations for its official launch date.
